This advising Canvas page revolves around Rice Engagement & Academic Leadership Planning so that you are prepared to synthesize your experiences, identify your goals and values, and work towards pursuing future opportunities, in and outside of the Center for Civic Leadership.

We believe that, in order to make informed choices about your next steps, you have to start by better understanding your values, motivations, and goals. You can do this through the cyclical process outlined below! Everything you find in this Canvas site will help you get to the next step in the blue arrows!

Here's how it works:

To get started with REAL Planning, you can navigate to Step 1 under the Modules tab to the left, or click here. At the bottom of each page, you'll see a Next button that will move you through the content in a progressive order.

What you'll find in the modules:

You'll find a mixture of information about civic foundations and opportunities, as well as reflective activities to help you start thinking about how that info connects with your current life and future goals.

Feel free to hit "Start Assignment" on any available page to jot down your thoughts and ideas! These are not real graded assignments, but rather an opportunity for you to get feedback from CCL advisers on any thoughts or questions you have as you move along.

What can you do with all of these activities?

A product of this process is an e-portfolio that represents your civic journey; your identity as a student, researcher, and scholar; and your future aspirations! Every reflective activity within the Canvas page allows you to build a piece of the e-portfolio. For instance, your first step, the Snapshot, can be easily imported into the template (Links to an external site.) we have created. However, feel free to be as creative as you would like! This e-portfolio will be a living document that you can come back to at any point, and especially as you connect with CCL advising.

We hope that you utilize the e-portfolio as you apply for programs, graduate school, fellowships, and next steps in your career. Additionally, having all this material in one portfolio allows us as advisers to better understand you holistically!
