Add Assignments
You can create assignments on the Assignments page. You can create an assignment shell, which is a placeholder for an assignment within an assignment group, or you can create an entire assignment with all the assignment details at the same time.
How to Add an Assignment:

- In Course Navigation, click the Assignments link.
- Click the Add Assignment button.
- Use the Rich Content Editor give detailed instructions about the assignment. You can also add images, text, links, equations, or insert media.
- Enter the points for your assignment in the Points field.
- Select the Assignment Group for the assignment in the Assignment Group drop-down menu.
- In the Display Grade as drop-down menu, select the method you want to use for grading.
- In the Submission Type drop-down menu, select the type of submission you want to accept for the assignment. By default, the submission type will be set to Online.
- By default, Canvas will set your assignment dates for everyone in your course. However, you can assign the assignment to an individual student Links to an external site. or course section Links to an external site..
- Create a due date for the assignment in the Due Date field.
- Click Save & Publish
Varied learning activities with multiple types of interaction promote engagement and foster a sense of community. Consider including the following 3 types of interactions in your course:

- Student-student interaction to foster a sense of community. Examples include: Peer Reviews, ask your classmate discussions, group assignments, videos, discussions, Google Docs for collaborative assignments Links to an external site., etc.
- Student-teacher interaction provides opportunities for timely and high-quality formal and informal feedback. This includes engaging discussions, scaffolding assignments, using rubrics and comments to provide feedback on assignments, surveys, and practice quizzes with feedback built in.
- Student-content interaction provides opportunities for self-assessment. These can include practice quizzes, reflections, discussions about content, journaling, etc.
